East Central College Extends President’s Contract And Approves Budget For New Fiscal Year

June 16, 2017

jon bauer extendedThe East Central College Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to award a contract extension to college president Dr. Jon Bauer.

The extension will run through June 30, 2020 with any change in salary commensurate with raises provided to all employees in fiscal years 2019 and 2020. Bauer recently completed his fifth year as ECC president. He is the college’s sixth president, succeeding Donald Shook, Charles Novak, Dale Gibson, Karen Herzog and Ed Jackson.  On two occasions Fred Davis served as interim president of the college.

Also, the East Central College Board of Trustees has approved the general operating budget and staffing plan for the 2018 fiscal year.

Part of the $18.6 million budget and staffing plan includes a projected decline in state funding as well as a likely increase in local tax revenue. The staffing plan also included the reorganization of leadership in the Academics division. The new leadership positions will be filled by current faculty members that results in a cost savings to the college due to faculty retirements and the restructuring of the Academic Division.  Two new director positions were also approved to better position East Central for outreach in the community.  The Director of Dual Credit and College Readiness will work with area high schools to promote collaboration as the college works to ensure that they make a concentrated effort to work with local districts to provide college-level, dual credit courses to students.  And, the Director of Online Education will work to bolster ECC’s online learning opportunities for its students.

Because of proposed budget cuts at the state level, the new budget did not include raises for staff and faculty, but college president Dr. Jon Bauer noted that employee raises are still on the table.   He says the college will reassess revenue in early fall to determine whether raises can be applied during the fiscal year.
