House-approved Financial CHOICE Act a Luetkemeyer Priority

114_rp_mo_3_luetkemeyer_blaineJune is an incredibly busy legislative month for the House of Representatives and my colleagues and I got to work right out of the gate by passing a bill that I have discussed in my bulletin frequently, the Financial CHOICE Act – the alternative to Dodd-Frank.

The Financial CHOICE Act is really quite simple. It is the plan to reform Wall Street and revitalize Main Street banks like those from St. Charles to Camdenton all while protecting the financial well-being and independence of Americans. For far too long, we have been discussing “too big to fail” and the Financial CHOICE Act eliminates this practice for good. The Financial CHOICE Act will hold Wall Street accountable by imposing enhanced penalties for fraud and increasing transparency in the financial sector. Additionally, as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, I am pleased that a major provision in the Financial CHOICE Act will rein in the unchecked, unconstitutional Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This legislation restructures the agency and makes it accountable to Congressional oversight – as it should have been on day one. With passage in the House of Representatives complete, the Financial CHOICE Act now makes its way across the Capitol to the Senate. It is my hope my colleagues will put politics aside and get to work quickly so we can deliver relief to Main Street and Americans.

Additionally, I had several meetings with individuals and groups from Missouri that were in Washington to discuss their priorities with me. Missouri, especially the 3rd District, is home to a great many farmers and ranchers and agriculture is our state’s number one economic sector. This week, local chapters of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) were in Washington. As we all know, there are serious issues facing our family farmers and ranchers, and the young people involved in FFA are ready to tackle them head on. I am incredibly uplifted when I hear about their dedication to agriculture and continuing on making agriculture their life’s work. I will continue to be a staunch supporter of those involved in 4-H and FFA to ensure we have an environment that will help them flourish and make certain that American agriculture continues to be the global leader in the future.

Lastly, I wanted to take a moment and recognize the 73rd Anniversary of the D-Day invasion. As the son of a World War II veteran, I am reminded of the high price so many of our greatest generation paid for our freedom. I have had the honor and privilege to meet with many Missouri veterans who come to Washington to view their memorial and it never fails to be a humbling experience. Let us salute those who gave their lives and those who returned home knowing their accomplishments will never be forgotten.
