nieves26th District State Senator Brian Nieves of Washington has filed on the Republican ticket for the Franklin County recorder of deeds.

Nieves joins three other Republicans who have filed for the August primary. Nieves had initially filed for reelection in the 26th District but he dropped out of the race earlier this month to allow Republican House Speaker Tim Jones of Eureka to seek the post. But, last week, Jones announced that he would not be seeking the post. He said wants to continue to focus on raising support for a run in the 2016 Republican primary for state attorney general.

State Representative David Schatz of Sullivan is the only Republican running for Nieves’ 26th District Seat. Lloyd Klinedinst is the only Democrat who filed for the post.
